About us

  • What we do

Mission Statement: Empower graduate students to be more sustainable; we manage the Sustainability Fund, organize events, and advocate for more sustainability practices across campus. Objectives: i. Empowering students to be more sustainable Sustainability Fund ii. Increase collaboration with other student groups/ stakeholders esp. SSC, MITOS iii. Implement campus-wide initiatives

  • Where we are in the Graduate Student Council (GSC)

We are a sub-committee under the Housing & Community Affairs (HCA) committee in the GSC.

  • Funding

We manage the Sustainability Fund that students can tap into for community-targeted, educational projects related to sustainability (see related tab at the top of the page for more information).

Past Events

  • Winthrop Center Tour

We got an insider tour from Kathy MacNeil, the Principal at Millenium Partners who designed the tallest Passive House standard building! We learnt about the financing, stakeholder management, and ambitions of building a building with such stringent sustainability standards (think triple glazed windows).

  • Food fermentation workshop

Danhue, one of our Events Officer, hosted a kimchi making workshop during wintery December. Food preservation was used to ensure a constant supply of food through food-scarce months in winter. We learnt how to make kimchi using ingredients you can get from supermarkets. So delicious and good!

  • Acton Arboreteum foraging

We had a lovely foraging session with Russ Cohen, a well-known naturalist in the area! He taught us how to identify edibles, what to look out for, and even let us taste some of the nuts he had foraged earlier in the season. It opened our eyes to richness and benefits of plants in our vicinity that we normally overlook. Hoping to do a Spring foraging soon!
